MITCHELS MIXED FORTUNES IN AUGUST
John Mitchels Match Report v St Lawrences, Manchester
Senior League
22 August 2010
The fine summer's day in Manchester produced a fine display from a non-familiar senior team. Many of the players returning from injury, holidays and retirement put together a resilient display against a weak St Lawerence's team.
It is fair to say that neither starting team was as strong as what was met in the Lancashire championship in July but that did not take away the performance of the Mitchels team.
A spectacular first half goal from Cathir Mullan was contributed to by wonderful scores from Kevin Kane, Sheepy, Ronan McBride and Pauric Brennan. A late goal from Lawerences at the end of the first half added an air of respectability to the half time score line.
A majestic display of running, skill and teamwork from Mitchel's mid-fielders in Digestive Duddy and Kevy Kane was key to Mitchels success. Alot of running and support play from half-backs Joe Gervin, Anto Brady and Sheepy set up waves after wave of Mitchels attack. A fantastic chipped goal from "Banjo" Dillon from 10 yards was the icing on the Mitchels cake.
Mitchels are now second in the Senior League after four games.

John Mitchels Match Report v St Peters, Manchester
Junior League Final
25 August 2010
A strong Mitchels team was matched by a strong St Peter's team which many other clubs would be grateful for at senior level.
Mitchels started strongly notching up points from Paul Milanaphy and Colly Gallagher. St Peter's quickly changed their tact switching their centre half forward and full forward to Mitchels detriment. The St Peter's midfielders starting playing long balls into their new full forward line to clinical success. Mitchel's, however, had a lot of the possession but St Peter's began crowding out their defence leaving Mitchel's with few scoring opportunities.
A number of wides from either side left the scoreline a disappointing 0-03 to 0-05at half time with Mitchels trailing by two points. Unfortunately, an injury to Brian Carson sustained from some great fielding, meant Gary Dillion was moved into an unfamiliar midfield role.
In the second half Mitchel's rallied with Jason Conway commanding midfield coupled with good support play from Joe Gervin, Cathair Mullan and Pauric Brennan. With 10 minutes to go the game was level at 0-06 to 0-06 following some fine Mitchel's scores from Pauric Brennan and Paul Milanphy.
The turning point in the game came on the 55 minute mark when despite Mitchel's calls for a sideline ball, St Peters midfielder broke through the heart of the defence, scoring a fantastic goal past, the hitherto formidable, Peter Farrelly. Mitchels had a number of opportunities from play, frees and 45's to equalise but squandered these in search of an equalising goal.
The match at Greenbank, which was playing victim to the fading sunlight, ended with a roar of success from the St Peter's team for the result that was won by the solitary goal of the game. The post-match presenter, Tommy Walsh, commented on the hard fought game from both team and congratulated the St Peter's captain, whilst presenting the Junior League Trophy.
Mitchels next Junior game is the Wolfe Tone league final on 4 September followed by St Brendan's in the Senior Championship Semi Final on 12 September.
