PENNINE LEAGUE LIVERPOOL JOHN MITCHELS v MANCHESTER OISINS
07 March 2010
Full time score JM 0-16 Oisins 1-5
Mitchels commenced their defence of the Pennine League at Old Bedians on Sunday 7 March 2010 against old rivals Oisins. The match started with an exchange of early points for each team, but within a phase of five minutes Mitchels racked up an impressive five points from play. With Gary Traynor on fire in full forward, Mitchels were exploiting the 13 aside setup both teams agreed before the match. Philip Duddy and Sean McMahon linking well in a first time pairing at midfield. The Mitchels defence had been resolute until a well taken goal by Oisin's Richie Cross made the scoreline a draw at half time and ensured an exciting second half.
Mitchels swapped Seamey Martin for Sean Carty at half time and made an instant impact winning a number of good breaks at half forward with both him and Cathair Mullan setting up scores for Padraig Brennan and Gary Traynor. Daryl McConnell made an instant impact with three fine scores after replacing Ronan "Maxer" McBride. Conall Reddin came in for Alan Brown to sure up the Mitchels defence, which to be fair were not really tested in the second half. Anthony Brady, Sean Rice and Joe Gervin were strong in the half backline with Conal "Beags" Cunningham impressing whilst making his long awaited return to the Mitchels set up. Mitchels should have scored a number of goals but with a winning scoreline of 0-16 to 1-05, a comprehensive victory is a sound platform for the season ahead.
It was Rory Hollyoaks first game as selector alongside the ever present Barry Morris and Danny McDonagh. A strong turnout at training and a number of transfers yet to go through Mitchels are looking forward to another successful season.
