St Lawrence's under 10s won their first piece of silverware of the season by claiming victory in the prestigious Full Irish tournament that is held annually in Burnage rugby club. St Lawrence's went through the tournament unbeaten and what made the achievement even more remarkable is the fact that they beat Irish opposition on the way to the title not once but twice. The St Lawrence's side claim victories over St Anne's, Oisin's and beat an Irish team from Armagh in the Group stages and then in the final to prove that the hard work being put into underage in Lancashire is paying dividends and that players are just as good as teams in Ireland. Strong performances were put for the 'Yellow Bellies' by Martin Collins, Seamus Murphy and Niall Smith. Credit must go to coaches to Brendan Hargaden, Seamus Murphy, Brendan Deacy and Pete Melarkey who put a lot of effort into the underage this year. Seniors The seniors drew with Leeds team St Benedict's in hard fought, sporting encounter at Turn Moss. The Club would like to thank St Benedict's for making the trip down from Leeds. Next up for St Lawrence's is Oisin's in the senior championship play off at Old Bedians. This will be second time that teams meet each other in senior championship this year. Bizarrely this will be Lawrence's third game away from home this season in the Championship with Lawrence's being the only club in Lancashire not have played a home game in the Championship. Even more puzzling is the fact that it will be fifth meeting in four years in the senior championship between the two teams and on each occasion the game has been played at old Bedian's, with Lawrence's last having home advantage in 2004. A massive effort will be required from Lawrence's given the heavy defeat they received at hands of Oisin's in their recent league encounter.
