Carrickmore are back on top

October 12, 2004
Carrickmore are back as Tyrone SF champions when on Sunday 10th October at Healy Park, Omagh they convincingly defeated a fancied Dromore side on a scoreline of 1-13 to 1-9. This was the clubs 14th senior title success, and it is one they richly deserved, as they were far the better side for most of the game. The Carrickmore side now await the winners of next Sunday's Fermanagh SFC Final between Enniskillen Gaels and Derrygonnelly Harps in the Ulster series, and on the evidence of their display against Dromore on Sunday last, they must facny their chances of doing well in the provincial competition as well. Carrickmore just about edged the opening half and went in at the interval ahead by 1-6 to 1-3. However, they turned on the style in the second-half and were worthy winners in the end. It is surely proving a tremendous year for the Carrickmore club, which completed a clean sweep of minor, U-21 and senior titles, not to mention the ladies footballers and the clubs hurling success. Dromore, still looking for their first senior success following six county final appearances, were very much in contention at the interval, when they trailed their opponents by a goal. They fell away badly in the second-half when the Carrickmore side put on the pressure, and that in itself will be a disappointing aspect about this defeat. It was a personal achievement for the Carrickmore manager Dominic Corrigan who was under some pressure to deliver a senior title in his first year in charge. He had the side up for the challenge on this occasion, with many of his key players turning on the style when it mattered in that second-half. Team captain Peter Loughran played a captain's part in this success finishing the game with a personal tally of 1-5, and his leadership throughout the season has knitted the team together as a very strong unit. They will now set their sights on the provincial campaign - a competition that Corrigan would dearly love to win, but he also knows that his side will have to hold their best form to achieve that goal. These are heady times for the Carrickmore club, and the future as well as the present looks rosy for them, as they regain the title of kingpins of Tyrone club football. Carrickmore - P. McCallan; P.
