Kevin Hughes believes Tyrone can topple Kerry if they break even at midfield.

In an interview with the Irish Daily Star, the former Tyrone midfielder reckons Mickey Harte's men will stand a great chance of causing an upset if they can get to grips with David Moran and Anthony Maher, and therefore cut out the supply to the Kerry attack.

"It's well documented how good Kerry's forward line is, but at the same time a forward line is only as good as the supply that they are getting," Hughes said.

"If we can at least break even there (midfield) then they would have no platform for getting the ball into their forward line. They obviously have players of the quality of 'Gooch' Cooper, Kieran Donaghy, (James) O'Donoghue and Darran O'Sullivan who are all good attacking forwards, but you would have to question their work-rate and hunger to get back."

The three-time All-Ireland winner added: "I think that it's vital that we at least break even on the Kerry kick-outs or 60-40 to leave us with a good chance.

"If we could crowd out midfield and make Kerry hit the short kick-out and then put pressure on them high up the field, they won't relish having to carry the ball into Tyrone's defensive strategy."
