Tyrone attacker Conor McAliskey says the result, and not the performance, is all the matters against Sligo on Saturday.

The Red Hands will secure a place in the All-Ireland quarter-finals if, as expected, they overcome a Sligo team that's coming off the back of a 26-point defeat by Mayo in the Connacht SFC final.

"Performances, they are important, but results are just a wee bit up there," McAliskey said in the Irish News.

"Since the Donegal game (in the Ulster SFC preliminary round), we knew we weren't going to be too far away, but we had a bit of ground to make up. We were focusing on the next round in every game, get over every team in each game.

"Our performances, like against Meath, hasn't been always as good as we would have wanted, but we just needed to be in that draw each Monday morning.

"There were improvements to be made from Tipperary too, but it's just that need to be in the next round. Performances aren't the key element at the moment, being still in it is."
