Strabane Sigersons 0-16
Stewartstown Harps 1-04
Strabane Sigersons continued their good form in the league when they hosted Stewartstown at Páirc Mhic Sioghair on Saturday evening and secured two points to leave them joint top of the league. It was Stewartstown who opened the scoring with influential midfielder Peter Armour sending the ball over the bar but John McLaughlin quickly responded with a point from play for Sigersons to level the teams. It was Armour again who sent over a point from a 45 to put Stewartstown in front but McLaughlin slotted over from a free kick to level the scores on 8 minutes. James Kelly added a quality point from distance to edge the Harps in front but a long ball in from Warner Mullen to Paddy Roarty who laid off to Marc Devine to point found Sigersons level again and Devine pointed from play to send Sigersons ahead for the first time in the game. The lead however proved to be short lived as a long ball into the edge of the square and some indecisive defending from Sigersons allowed Cathal Devlin to poke the ball into the net and Mickey Mulgrew pointe from play to leave three between the teams. With the game entering added time a brace from Marc Devine and a point from Martin McNulty pulled Sigersons level at the break leaving the game hanging in the balance. Half time: Strabane Sigersons (0-7) Stewartstown Harps (1-4)
Strabane started the second half where there left off in the first half with John McLaughlin adding a point from play in the opening minutes of the second half with Gerard McCrossan also adding his first point of the day. Substitute Michael Etherson extended Sigersons lead to 3 points sending over a point from play. Stewartstown were failing to make any impact in the second period and Warner Mullen was able to send Strabane further in front when he sent over a point from a 45 and adding a point from play. Mullen added another point from a free kick after Paddy Roarty made a surging run and was pulled down 40 metres from goal. With 16 minutes gone in the second half John McLaughlin flicked the ball onto Marc Devine who sent Gerard McCrossan through on goal with the Strabane midfielder choosing to take a point to extent Sigersons lead. Marc Devine beat two defending but hit the side netting on 20 minutes to be denied a goal but added his fifth point from play to put Strabane eight points clear. As the game was entering the closing stages it looked less likely that Stewartstown were to find a score with Sigersons dominating midfield and controlling the ball. John McLaughlin adding added another point from a 13 metre free kick after Michael Etherson was fouled after making a run from his own half. Sigersons scored twelve unanswered points and kept Stewartstown scoreless in the second period to record a deserved nine point victory with Marc Devine top scoring for Sigersons on the day. The win now leaves Sigersons joint top of the Division 2 league.
