Strabane Sigersons Host successful Gaelic4Girls Programme
June 12, 2013
The Gaelic4Girls programme in Strabane has been a tremendous success, with over 100 girls taking part over 8 weeks. This LGFA national programme was held in association with Strabane Sigersons. The programme targeted girls between the ages of 9-13yrs who were not part of a Ladies Football Club and introduced them to the sport in a fun environment. The girls were taught the basic skills of Ladies Gaelic football and then demonstrated their new skills through a series of mini games. The Gaelic4Girls programme concluded on Tuesday 11th June in a wet Páirc Mhic Sioghair with a mini-blitz between all the girls. The weather may have dampened the clothes of the girls but it definitely didn't dampen their spirits. It was fantastic to see the dramatic improvement in the girls' skills levels throughout the programme and all the participants really enjoyed the blitz.
It has been clear to see for all involved what a fantastic initiative this programme was and the consistent turnouts every Tuesday nightwere justification that the girls enjoyed the 8 weeks. The enthusiasm shown by all was a joy to behold and bodes well for the future of Ladies Football in Strabane Sigersons. The Co-ordinator of the programme, Jason Foley, would like to thank the various different coaches for all their hard work over the past number of weeks.
A presentation night will be organised in Strabane Sigersons Social Club upon receipt of the Gaelic4Girls Jerseys, were the girls will be presented with their Jerseys and certificates for completing the programme. All parents will be notified of the time and date of the presentation evening when it becomes known.
This Saturday the girls head off to the Tyrone Centre of Excellence in Garvaghy to participate in a Mini Blitz against Gaelic4Girls participants from other Clubs throughout Ulster. This is sure to be a fun filled day where the girls will participate in mini-games where they will showcase their newly learned skills. The Bus is due to leave at 8:45am.
Finally due to the significant increase in the number of girls participating at Strabane Sigersons training sessions we need more volunteers to help with these sessions and other activities within the Club. We invite all parents of Strabane Sigersons youth players, their older siblings, former players, current players over 16 years of age and any other adults who would be interested in volunteering within the club to do so by getting in touch with Youth Officer Jason Foley or any Club official. It's not what your Club can do for you, it's what can you do for your Club.
Sigersons Abu!
