Strabane Reserve record fine win
June 11, 2013
Hunky Dorys Tyrone ACFL Division 2 Reserve
Strabane Sigersons 1-08
Rock St Patrick's 0-07
The Reserve footballers recorded a fine victory over a strong and determined Rock side. Strabane started well and opened the scoring through Dylan Arnold who slotted over a free kick after Owen Farrell had been pulled down. Dylan then added another point this time from play to double Sigersons lead. Good work in the Strabane defence from Kieran O'Kane, Ronan Haughey and Jordan Foley as well as Hayden McNamee and Aaron McGowan in midfield continued to shut out Rock. Marty Devine extended Sigersons lead with a brace of points in a matter of minutes to put Strabane in a strong position midway through the half but it would prove to be their last score in the first period. Rock then began to get back into the game scoring three points, two from play and one from a free, to bring them within a point going in at the break. Half time score: Strabane Sigersons 0-4 Rock St Patrick's 0-3.
Rock began the second half where they left off in the first half and opened the scoring through a point from play to level the scores. The next score of the game would prove to be crucial as the only major of the game was recorded. Strabane worked the ball out of defence before Dylan Arnold played a long ball into the goal ward bound run of Sean Doherty who flicked the ball past the keeper to leave himself with a tap in. Strabane then extended their lead thanks to a point from a free by Aodhan Stewart. Rock responded with a score from a free to leave a goal between the teams midway through the second half. A brace of points from play through Dylan Arnold put Strabane into a dominant position with ten minutes to go but two points from frees for Rock brought them back into the game. With the game entering the closing stages Aaron McGowan struck over a point from play to put four between the teams and gave Strabane some breathing room. Rock knowing that time was running out went in search for a goal but some gallant defending from Strabane continued to repel their attacks and with the game in injury time Kieran O'Kane cleared the ball off the line to secure a hard fought four point victory for Sigersons. Full time score: Strabane Sigersons 1-08 Rock St Patrick's 0-07
