2008 final will have no bearing, Munroe insists

Tyrone manager Raymond Munroe says the 2008 All-Ireland final will have no relevance when the Red Hands renew their rivalry with Mayo in Sunday's ESB All-Ireland minor football semi-final.

Tyrone needed a replay and a period of extra-time before finally getting the better of the Westerners, but Munroe, who oversaw that All-Ireland success, doesn't think it will have any bearing this weekend with two completely new teams set to take to the Croke Park field.

"We're just looking at where we want to be," he told the Irish News.

"The opposition this time just happens to be Mayo, a repeat of that All-Ireland final. We're two years down the line from that, and there are two completely different teams. I know Mayo were beaten last year in the final again, so they will be very dangerous opposition."

Despite chalking up facile wins over Armagh and Kerry, Munroe stresses the need for further improvement from the Ulster champions.

"The performance of the last day out against Kerry will not be good enough to beat Mayo because Mayo is completely new different team. So it's important that we try and get the performance right for the 22nd."
