Senior football

The reserves produced a spirited performance, the highlight of which was a stunning finish from Mono to the top corner.  Strangely this wasn't followed by his customary fist pump celebration!  However the team were defeated by a strong Donaghmore side by 3 points.

Aireagal Chiaráin
The cloud left over the club following the passing of James Higgins turned an even darker shade this week, as news of the tragic death of John McKeever broke. John was a popular former underage player with the club, who always gave of his best in the Errigal jersey. We, as a club, extend our deepest sympathies to the McKeever family. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam. On the much less important issue of footballing matters, we collected both points at home to Coalisland in the senior league in a game that will in no way resemble the intensity of the championship encounter in three weeks time. We are away to Killyclogher in the league on Sunday (2.15pm & 3.45pm). Best wishes to our senior reserves who entertain Carrickmore in the championship on Friday (7.15pm). This will be immediately followed by a 'Night at the races' in The Crannon getting underway at 9.30pm. With the inimitable Martin McCarron introducing each race, a fun night is guaranteed and we hope to see as many there as possible. With free admission on the night, it's one not to be missed. We had two good wins over Owen Roes in the junior and reserve league on Saturday. We travel to Killyman on Sunday (2.15pm & 3.45pm) for our next league outing. In underage action, our U16s play Omagh at home on Thursday (7.15) with U8/10/12 training on Thursday (6.30 - 7.30). The Truagh U10 tournament is on Saturday with the bus leaving from the chapel at 9.00am. Training for U11-13s is on Wednesday at 6.30pm in Dunmoyle. Our U12s play Moortown at home on Monday August 16th at 7.30pm. Thank you to all club members who continue to support the club through our draw. We would not be able to function properly without your generous contributions. Alphalot letters this week are D K M N O. Mickey Campbell wins £200 for successfully matching four letters. Next week's jackpot will be £21200.

An Mhaigh Tír na nÓg G.A.C
Boys Under 12 Tournament
Over 240 young players and a large number of spectators from different parts of Ulster flocked to Páirc Thír na nÓg, An Mhaigh for the Annual P.B. Laverty Cup and Shield Under 12 Tournament last Saturday (7th August).
Once again, the tournament proved to be an overwhelming success.  Favourable weather conditions, a wonderful exhibition of underage football, and tremendous organisation by our Youth Officer Martin Conroy and his large team of helpers made this a day to remember.
The clubs who took part in this annual football extravaganza were hosts An Mhaigh (Tyrone), Glenties (Donegal), Omagh (Tyrone), Errigal Ciaran (Tyrone), Ballyholland (Down), St Brigids (Antrim), Dungannon (Tyrone), Moortown (Tyrone), Clonduff (Down), Edendork (Tyrone) and Derrylaughan (Tyrone).  Gort na Mona (Antrim) were late withdrawals from the tournament.
Chief Organiser Marty Conroy reports: "The Shield competition for the lesser placed teams culminated in Dungannon and Derrylaughan playing out a thrilling final which was watched by a large crowd.  After 45 minutes of epic football, the two teams could not be separated and it was agreed that the trophy would be shared.  Final score was Dungannon 22 points, Derrylaughan 22 points.
"The P B Laverty Cup Final was played between Moortown, who had overcome Errigal Ciaran in the semi-final, and Clonduff who had defeated Glenties from county Donegal in their semi-final.  Moortown had found themselves two points in arrears after a closely fought B final but their A team turned in a magical performance to defeat a gallant Clonduff team who fought hard in a great game of football.
"A big thank you must go to all the referees, scorekeepers and umpires who helped contribute to the overall success of the tournament and to Caroline Conroy who had the scoreboard working a treat and was always there to do the simple jobs! Catering was looked after by Mary Daly, Deirdre Regan, Anne McCourt and Angela Lynch who deserve great praise for the work they did.
"What also made the tournament so memorable were the supporters who provided great encouragement and helped the children achieve their full potential."
Gaelic Start Camp
An Mhaigh G.A.C. also hosted a three-day Gaelic Start Summer Camp at Páirc Thír na nÓg last week (Wednesday 4th August to Friday 6th August).  The camp was open to local children going into Primary 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 this September.
Credit must go to our Summer camp co-ordinator Karol McQuade and his band of willing helpers who ensured the kids had a very enjoyable time taking part in the various fun activities.
Men's Senior Team
An Mhaigh senior men's footballers consolidated their position in the top half of the A.C.L. Division One table with a battling six point win away to Galbally, last Sunday afternoon.
A superb goal from Peter Mallon after only three minutes signalled Moy's intent from the outset.  Playing with the aid of a stiff breeze in the first half, the visitors defended well and created plenty of scoring opportunities but were a bit disappointed to be only leading 1-5 to 0-4 at the break.
Any hopes Galbally had of making wind advantage count in the second half were quickly dashed as Emmett Rafferty fisted a Sean Cavanagh free-kick to the net after 35 minutes.  Two more Peter Mallon points stretched Moy's advantage to eight and, with the likes of Matt Murren also linking up well with our four county players, the Tír na nÓgs successfully closed the game out to win on a final scoreline of 2-10 to 1-7.
Team & Scorers: Barry Gribbin; Brendan Kelly, Niall Conlon, Adam Currie; Matt Murren, Philip Jordan, Francie McQuade; Sean Cavanagh (0-2, 1 fk) and Colm Jordan; Peter Mallon (1-4, 2 fk), Ryan Mellon (capt, 0-1), Emmett Rafferty (1-0); Tommy Conlon (0-1), Martin Kernan, Colm Cavanagh (0-2, 1 fk).  Subs used: Kris Kavanagh (45 mins), Padraig Laverty (50 mins) and James Devlin (53 mins).
League Position: Played 10, Won 6, Drawn 0, Lost 4, Points 12.  Remaining Fixtures: v Greencastle (away) on Sunday 15th August at 3.45pm; v Errigal Ciaran (away) on Saturday 21st August; v Omagh (home) on Sunday 5th September; v Cookstown (away) on Sunday 12th September; v Coalisland (home) on Saturday 18th September.
Men's Reserve Team
An Mhaigh reserve footballers competed well for long periods against Galbally in the league last Sunday but it wasn't enough to prevent them from sliding to another defeat in division one.
The Sky Blues played some very good football in the opening half and were unlucky not to be leading at the break.  Niall Kelly and Philly McQuade were among those standing firm in a defence which was further strengthened by Gary Jordan's switch to the back for the second half.
James Devlin had an outstanding game at midfield, scoring four great points from play, while Adrian O'Neill and Conall Laverty were part of a forward unit which caused the home defence a lot of problems.  Unfortunately, the Moy men could not maintain their strong challenge in the second half when playing into the wind and ended up on the wrong side of a 0-9 to 1-15 scoreline.
An Mhaigh's next reserve league game is away to Greencastle this Sunday (15th August) at 2.15pm.  For more information on reserve team matters, contact managers Sean Mallon or Brendy Farmer.
Boys Under 18 Team
An Mhaigh minor lads advanced to the semi-finals of the league thanks to an excellent two point victory away to Glenelly on Tuesday 3rd August.  Team mentor Martin Deeney reports:
"Matthew Dynes opened the scoring for Moy with an early goal.  This was followed by points from Liam Kelly and Mark McConville.  Glenelly got back to within two points before Harry Loughran scored the first of his two goals.  Further points from Cormac O'Neill, Mark McConville and Harry Loughran saw us lead 3-5 to 1-8 at half-time.
"The second half was a low-scoring affair.  A wonderful solo point from Eoghan O'Neill was one of the highlights of the match and was followed by Liam Kelly's second score.  Glenelly tagged on four points of their own but Moy secured the win with a final point from Eunan Deeney.  Final Score: An Mhaigh 3-8 Glenelly 1-12."
Team & Scorers: Nathan Brady; Jack Kelly, Eoghan O'Neill (0-1), Jack Donaghy, Odhrán Burke, Mark Gribbin; Eunan Deeney (0-1) and Cormac O'Neill (0-1); Patrick Fox, Mark McConville (0-2), Harry Loughran (2-1), Matthew Dynes (1-0), Liam Kelly (0-2). Sub used: Niall McConville.  Other subs: Daryl Mills and James Mackle.
An Mhaigh are now in the semi-finals of both the League and Championship with games in both competitions now postponed until after Tyrone's All-Ireland Minor Semi-Final against Mayo on 22nd August.  For more information on training and fixtures, contact team mentors Paud Loughran, Martin Deeney or Paul Dynes.
Boys Under 16 Team
An Mhaigh Under 16 lads kept alive their chances of qualifying for the knock-out stages of the league when turning in a top notch display to defeat Augher in a high-scoring encounter at Páirc Thír na nÓg on Thursday 5th August.
The foundations for this victory were built on a hugely impressive first half performance which saw the Moy boys dominate in every sector of the field to lead 5-9 to 0-6 at the interval.  The winners had to withstand a terrific fightback by Augher in the second half but still fully deserved their 6-12 to 1-15 win.
Goalkeeper Eoin Fearon proved his worth with two magnificent saves and received good protection from a hard-working defence in which Daryl Mills and Jack Donaghy were the star performers.  Jack and Liam Kelly performed strongly to win the midfield battle while Michael Cartmill, Niall McConville and sub Chris O'Neill were among those who impressed in a free-scoring attack.
Team & Scorers: Eoin Fearon; Joe McMahon, Conor McCourt, Daryl Mills, Jack Donaghy, Michael Morgan; Jack Kelly (0-1) and Liam Kelly (0-2); Declan Conroy (0-1), Mark McConville (1-0), James Cavanagh, Niall McConville (1-4, 1 fk), Michael Cartmill (3-3).  Sub used: Chris O'Neill (1-1).
League Position: Played 6, Won 3, Drawn 0, Lost 3, Points 6.  An Mhaigh's next league match is away to Aghaloo this Thursday (12th August) at 7.15pm. For more information on training and fixtures, contact team mentors Sean Cartmill, Raymond Kelly or Gerry McCourt.
Girls Under 16 Team
An Mhaigh Under 16 girls made the long trek to Aghyaran on Tuesday 3rd August for their first away game of the season.  The Tír na nÓg cailíní took a long time to get into their stride and were trailing by eight points at half-time.  However, a superb second half display saw them overturn Aghyaran's lead to go in front by a point late in the game.
Unfortunately for our girls, disaster struck on the stroke of full-time when the home side snatched a late goal to win both league points.  It was tough luck but An Mhaigh will hope to bounce back with a win against Stewartstown at home this Tuesday evening (10th August) at 7.30pm.
League Position: Played 2, Won 1, Drawn 0, Lost 1, Points 3.  For more information on training and fixtures, contact team mentors Aiden McCormack, Eimear McKearney, Jenna Hagan or Aiveen McCormack.

 Senior and Reserve Fixtures
The Seniors and Reserves are in league action on Sunday when the travel to Coalisland, throw in 2:15pm (reserve) and 3:45pm senior.
Seniors defeated by Greencastle
Fr Rocks seniors were defeated by visitors Greencastle at Paddy Cullen Park on Sunday afternoon. It was the visitors who opened the scoring after five minutes with a pointed free. Owen Mulligan opened the Rocks account from a free a minute later. The first half was an evenly contested affair, with Cookstown enjoining the majority of possession but indiscipline in defence cost them dear. There were scores from Owen Mulligan and brilliant individual efforts from Niall Glackin and Raymond Mulgrew, but five converted frees from the visitors left the scoreline 0-5 to 0-5 at half time. In the second half Cookstown failed to get going and failed to score for twenty five minutes. During this time Greencastle had opened a five point lead, two late freekicks from Owen Mulligan were not enough and the visitors held on to secure two vital league points on a scoreline of 0-11 to 0-7. Best for Cookstown on the day were Conor O'Hare and Ryan Pickering. The Fr Rocks team lined out as follows; M Rea, C Bell, B Kelly, M O'Connor, S McGarrity, B Hughes, C O'Hare, B O'Neill, N Glackin (0-1), R Mulgrew (0-1), B Mulligan, Brian Mulligan, J Gilmore, O Mulligan (0-5, 5 frees), R Pickering.
