An Chárraig Mhór 'Spirit of Carmen' Celebration
March 16, 2010
A large crowd attended the re-launch of Club Carmen under the new banner of the 'Spirit of Carmen' last Saturday night in the Patrician. Well known Moortown 'Bard', Patsy O'Hagan, got the night of to a start with some of his hilarious tales. Chairman, Mick Daly, then addressed the crowd and paid tribute to all those who contributed the 'Club Carmen' since it inception. He continued, 'we have a responsibility to provide the best playing facilities for our youth and adult teams. It is with this mind that tonight we embark on yet another ambitious programme of works which will see not only see the resurfacing of our main pitch but the addition of flood lighting and new changing rooms'. The chairman went on to urge all those with an interest in the club to consider playing a part in the next phase of our development. 'On behalf of the committee, who have been elected to steer the club this year, I call on all those associated with the club to answer the call that has been answered by every generation since 1932. That is the call to fall in behind our latest cause the 'Spirit of Carmen'. All who contribute to it will reap reward from it'. Taking the platform after Mick, Sean Mc Guigan, outlined the new 'Spirit of Carmen' scheme with a detailed presentation of how the new fundraising scheme will work and what all funds raised will be spent on. Proposed plans for the new development were on show throughout the hall for all in attendance to view at their leisure.
On the night many supporters and players took the opportunity to sign up to the new scheme. Over the next number of weeks committee members will be trying to encourage anyone involved with the club to consider the contribution they can make to the development of our players from under six to adult level.
