Appeal from Beragh Red Knights GAC
July 01, 2009
A Tyrone GAA club is appealing for public support in its bid for a major award from the National Lottery.
Beragh Red Knights is the only sports facility in the north to have reached the semi-finals in the Best Sports Project Category. Now they need votes to see off competition from similar projects in the UK.
The Beragh Community Facility has been funded through Sport Northern Ireland and Big Lottery Fund. To register your vote for Community Sports Pavilion call 0844 686 1680 or log onto

The winning project in each category will be featured on a special BBC 1 TV show later this year, along with a £2000 cash prize to spend on their project.
Voting has already begun for the best project and the facilities in Beragh, which were opened in 2006, are hoping to land the prestigious prize.
"What has impressed the judges from the National Lottery is the variety of classes which are taking place. Because they attract people of all ages and sections of the community is also a major positive," said club chairman, Gerard Treacy.
"The fact that we are a sports club has ensured that our classes are all aimed at recreational activities. There's aerobics, boxercise and circuits and then hip-hop and drama for younger people."
Beragh's new facilities were officially opened in its Centenary Year, marking a highpoint in a year of celebrations. The new Community Sports Pavilion is used by all sections of the community, including those involved in football, handball, ladies football and hurling within the Red Knights club.
"We're delighted to have reached this stage of the National Lottery Awards. Lottery funding has helped us to develop and grow, making a real difference to young peoples' lives and we're really hoping the public gets behind us and votes," added Gerard Treacy.
"Many projects such as ours find it difficult to sustain activities. We have been fortunate to have had a funded project co-ordinator for a year and the work of this person and other voluntary effort on a part-time basis has enhanced and evolved the activities."
