Tactics were crucial, says happy Harte

Tyrone manager Mickey Harte
Mickey Harte compared Tyrone's Ulster SFC semi-final clash with Derry to a "game of chess". The Tyrone manager re-jigged his full back line by putting Justin McMahon on Paddy Bradley, PJ Quinn on Eoin Bradley, while Conor Bradley sat just in front of them in a sweeper role. "It's a bit like a game of chess," he said. "You don't want to show your full hand to everybody. You have to have a number of hands. If you are depending on one particular way of playing the game, the opposition will ready that very quickly. "You need versatility in players. You also need versatility in team plans as well. We like our players to adapt to different situations and different opponents." Harte was delighted with the performances of two of the Red Hands unsung heroes, Tommy McGuigan and Martin Penrose, who scored 0-7 between them in the Red Hands' surprisingly comfortable win. "They won All-Ireland minor medals in 2001. They have matured along the way. "I have said for some time now that Marty Penrose is a serious forward. Some people will begin to appreciate that today but I have seen that for some time. "When his confidence is in, he is a serious threat to any defender. Tommy McGuigan is a quality player as well."
