Tipperary captain Peter Acheson says manager Liam Kearns deserves major credit for the team's deep run in the championship this summer.

The Premier County will contest its first ever All-Ireland SFC quarter-final on Sunday when they take on Kevin Walsh's Galway at Croke Park and the Moyle Rovers clubman has lauded Kearns and his management team on the job they've done since taking the reins this year.

"Liam has been massive to us. He's a massive character, his professionalism is next to none - it's absolutely brilliant," the Tipp skipper stated on the Jones' Road podcast yesterday.

"When he came in and we were missing all the players he drew a line in the sand and said 'lads were not using that as an excuse this year' and I think we all bought into that. The management that he has with him - Brian Lacey, Tommy Toomey and Michael Byrne are doing massive stuff and we know every player inside out going out there, whether it's Kerry, Cork or Derry.

"The rest of the management - Paul Fitz, Shane Stapleton and Ian Dowling and the lads, it's top notch and the professionalism is absolutely brilliant."

On the weekend's showdown with the Tribesmen, Acheson outlined that Tipp won't be showing up at headquarters to make up the numbers.

"We'll be underdogs again," he accepted. "Galway are after beating Mayo and Roscommon, so they obviously have a serious team this year and they won at U21 in 2013 and 2011 and all those players are coming to the fore now.

"But look, we've a lot of winners in our team too and it'll be 15 on 15 on the day, so you never know what might happen."
