Noel McGrath almost scored a fairytale winner on his Tipperary comeback at Croke Park today.

The Loughmore-Castleiney clubman received a standing ovation when he was introduced with eight minutes remaining in the All-Ireland SHC semi-final between Tipperary and Galway. His return came just four months after he underwent surgery for testicular cancer.

With the sides level and less a minute of normal time remaining, McGrath looked to fired Tipp into the All-Ireland final with a brilliant point from Cusack Stand side. But it wasn't to be as Jason Flynn levelled before substitute Shane Moloney scored the winner for Galway.

Perhaps the unluckiest man in Croke Park was Tipp attacker Seamus Callanan who scored 3-9 - equalling Nicky English's tally of 2-12 in the 1989 All-Ireland final against Antrim - but still finished on the losing side.
