Hawk-Eye proves it worth

Hawk-Eye won over many of its critics with some excellent calls in this afternoon's All-Ireland final.

The score detection technology, which was installed at Croke Park last year, was called upon by referee Barry Kelly no less than three times during the gripping draw between Tipperary and Kilkenny. And it proved its worth each time, first decreeing that Colin Fennelly's first-minute shot was a point and later in the first half that Conor Fogarty's shot was wide.

The biggest call came in the final minute when Hawk-Eye adjudged that John O'Dwyer's long-range free to win the game was mere inches wide. Imagine the controversy that would have unfolded if Barry Kelly and his officials had awarded a point?

So, after a shaky start, it's time to take a bow, Hawk-Eye!
