"If it happened in New York, the Mafia would be suspected"

Clare manager Colm Collins was stunned to hear that Wicklow had beaten Tipperary.

The race for promotion from Division Four could have had a dramatic twist on Sunday afternoon when the Garden County somehow plundered three injury-time goals to steal an unlikely victory over the already-promoted Premier County in Thurles.

As it turned out, that result was rendered irrelevant by the Banner County's battling win away to Antrim and Collins was able to reflect on the day's events with tongue in cheek:

"There was very little space between the sideline and the supporters and they were saying to me 'You're fine, Tipp are winning by seven and the game is almost over'.

"As it happened, we won anyway, were enjoying our celebrations afterwards when someone said to me: 'Good job you won, Wicklow beat Tipperary'.

"I said 'No way, they were up by seven points going into injury time'.

"But they got beaten - three goals in a minute. If it happened in New York the Mafia would be suspected."
