New Sligo manager Tommy Jordan
Sligo are in the market for a new football manager after Tommy Jordan resigned from the post after less than a year in charge. Jordan, who succeeded Tommy Breheny in the role after he guided Sligo to their first Connacht SFC success in 32 years exactly a year ago today, was expected to lead the team in the Tommy Murphy Cup but has decided to opt out now due to family reasons. The former All-Ireland club winning boss of Crossmolina will not have happy memories of his time in charge of the Yeats County after they were relegated to Division 4 of the NFL and easily dethroned as Connacht champions by Mayo a few weeks ago. At the time, long-serving talisman Eamonn O'Hara said he was embarrassed by the county's fall from grace and subsequently stated that he did not wish to be considered for the Tommy Murphy Cup. The Sligo county board issued the following statement on Monday night confirming Jordan's departure: "Thomas Jordan has advised An Coiste Chontae that it is his wish to resign as senior team manager with immediate effect, because of personal family reasons. "The County Executive Committee met this evening (Monday) and reluctantly accepted his resignation. "The executive thanked Thomas for his work on behalf of the senior squad in 2007-08. They especially wished him and his family all the best for the future."
