Henry relishing Mayo clash
July 03, 2008
Sligo Ladies manager Paddy Henry has admitted that his side have nothing to fear when they face Mayo this Saturday in the Ladies Connacht SFC final at Castlebar.
Henry led the Yeats Ladies to a memorable All-Ireland triumph at junior level in 2006 and this year his side sprung an upset when they defeated a fancied Galway side in the provincial semi-final to book a place in the decider.
"Nobody expected us to beat Galway but we emerged as worthy winners so why should we fear Mayo," asked the Sligo boss.
"Last year's experience only served to give us added motivation and at the start of this season we set a Connacht title as our target."
Although Henry is confident that his side can come away with a victory from McHale Park, he does acknowledge that Sligo could not be coming up against much more tougher competition in the province.
"Mayo have a great pedigree in ladies football so there could hardly be a bigger challenge in a Connacht final," conceded Henry.
Sligo take on Mayo this Saturday, July 6, in the Ladies Connacht SFC final with a throw-in time of 3pm scheduled for McHale Park, Castlebar.
