Former Sligo footballer Eamonn O'Hara believes that Sligo lacked 'tactical awareness' in their All-Ireland SFC clash against Tyrone.

Writing in his weekly column in the Sligo Champion, O'Hara revealed that he had to take a week off before commenting on the game as he was that irate with the performance, which saw Tyrone ease through to the quarter final.

"I allowed a week to pass to cool off," wrote O'Hara. "I honestly needed it. I was ready to come out shooting from all angles, sitting in Croke Park as the game against Tyrone progressed, my thoughts hopped from pity to criticism back to pity.

"Why Sligo were the only team that looked like they had no idea what they were at. I'm not questioning the ability of the players, I'm not questioning the desire of the players. I'm not questioning the effort shown by the players. I never would as I know you will get everything from a Sligo player if you ask for it.

"I'm questioning Niall Carew and the lack of tactical awareness and set up."

O'Hara goes on to state where Carew got it wrong with his match ups and feels that Kevin McDonnell was made to suffer for the Connacht SFC final defeat to Mayo.

"Kevin McDonnell was dropped before the game. Carew used him as his scape goat after the Mayo humiliation. A handy choice to pick a young lad new to the team, but one he left completely exposed in the Connacht final.

"Carew rather than coming out admitting he got that Connacht final all wrong, he blamed a player by dropping him."
