Taaffe hails centre of excellence

Sligo chairman Joe Taaffe is adamant that their new centre of excellence will benefit all that pull on the county jersey.

The centre of excellence based at Scarden is set to open in November as it nears completion and will see all Sligo's county teams train and prepare there.

Speaking to the Sligo Champion, the county board chairman spoke of his delight at the way the development has turned out.

"It means we won't have to be asking clubs to use their facilities," said Taaffe. "If the weather is bad, clubs don't want teams going in on their pitches and you can understand that.

"At Scarden, we will have three pitches and we can rotate them. It will be home to all our teams. Hopefully we will be up and running and using the pitches in November."
