Walsh: We need a massive performance

Sligo manager Kevin Walsh
Sligo senior football manager Kevin Walsh says his team will need "a massive performance" if they are to overcome Galway this weekend and book their place in the Connacht SFC final alongside Mayo. The former Galway midfielder will come up against some of his ex-team mates for the first time in the inter-county championship football, which will make him the centre of attention at Markievicz Park, but he says his sole focus will entirely be with trying to get a Sligo win. "I had great years with Galway and I played with some of the lads who will be lining out against us on Sunday but that's all in the past. Now, my business is with Sligo. My only focus is on winning Sunday's game, regardless of the opposition. "It's the first time in my life that I am opposing Galway but it's just another match that has to be contested. I just hope the result goes Sligo's way." Walsh is pleased to have a clean bill of health for his first inter-county championship game as a manager, which sees Eamon O'Hara set to start his sixteenth All-Ireland SFC campaign for the Yeats County. "The preparations have gone very well," explained Walsh. "We had a good look at all the lads and, thankfully, we're coming up to the championship with a clean bill of health. All the lads are fighting fit and there's great competition for places in the staring 15. That's a situation which any manager would welcome at this time of year." As for the Tribesmen, Walsh sees them as All-Ireland contenders once again this summer, but is planning to send Liam Sammon's charges through the backdoor at his side's expense this Sunday. "Galway are among the top six teams in the country so it's a huge task for us," admitted the Sligo boss. "We need to produce a massive performance on the day to have any chance. We believe we can do that. I have 100 per cent confidence in our lads. I know they will give it everything and no manager can ask for any more than that."
