U-8/U-10 Coaching:
Under 8 and 10 coaching continues Friday evening from 7-8pm. Bonniconlon were visitors to Corballa on Friday evening for U10 and U8 games. Both teams provided a great evenings entertainment for the large gather. Thanks to Bonniconlon for making the trip. All boys and girls at this age level are encouraged to come along.
Under 12
The under 12 team traveled to Markievicz Park on Sunday last for the finals of the C competition. The team was not helped by the fact that the Minor board arranged the finals for the same day as the Community games finals across town which denied up to 6 players to perform at their best in either location. Hopefully the minor board takes this on board for next year. The team played St.Farnans in the semi final of the cup competition and despite sprinting across town put on a great display and were most unlucky to lose by a solitary point. The team played good football in patches and it was an overall good team performance. Well done to the team and management
Under 14:
The under 14 team take on Ballisodare this Friday in the A Championship semi final. At time of going to press full details are not known but it is presumed that Ballisodare have home advantage. More details on Sligo GAA website or our own Club website.
The team are eagerly awaiting Feile Peil na nOg in Kildare in July. On Friday 4th July the team take on our host club Cellbridge in Round 1 of group games. Between 7 and 9pm on the same day the team will take part in the Feile Parade from St. Conleth's Park, along main Street to Cill Mhuire Car Park. On Saturday July 5th the team and supporters travel to Kilcullen and are in a group with Cellbridge, Kilcullen and Coralstown/Kinnegad from Westmeath. This will be round 2 and 3 of the group stages and the skills competition will also be held at this venue. The semi finals will also be played on this day. On Sunday, the finals will be held. If we are successful in reaching the final of our division it will be held at St. Conleth's Park. The Club extends good wishes to the team and management and are very proud of this achievement. The club also thanks everyone who are currently conveying good wishes to the club and team for this All Ireland festival.
Under 16:
The under 16 team are awaiting word of their Division 3 league Final. The team have been drawn in a group with Tubbercurry and St. Molaise Gaels in the B Championship. Round 1 is away to St. Molaise Gaels on Monday June 22nd. Round 2 is a home fixture against Tubbercurry on Monday 29th June.
Minor:
The Minor team participated in the Minor Blitz finals that took place at Kevinsfort. The team defeated Bunninadden/Ballymote in the semi-final and lost out to St.Mholaise Gaels in the next game. The team are coming back to training this week after the leaving cert and preparing for the championship later in the Summer
Junior:
The Junior travelled to Shamrock Gaels last Saturday evening for the 5th round of the division 5 league. The good evening meant we had a very good turnout and with the leaving over we were able to welcome back a good number of players. We started slowly in the first half and but as the half wore on we started to play a better brand of football and went in at the half time whistle losing 2-7 v 0-4.
From the restart Brian Curley scored a good goal and then two points meant we were right back in the game. We missed a number of good opportunities after this and when the home team scored their third goal with 15 minutes to go the game as a contest was over, but we kept trying and ended up losing 3-19 v 1-9 Team; B.Barrins, U.McGranahan, P.Flynn, D.Gilmartin, D.Howley, K.Barrett, F.Barrett, J.O'Regan, M.Fitzsimons, B.Curley, C.Gordon, B.Judge, P.Maughan, N.Fox, A.Mullarkey.Subs.M.Langan, S.Feeney, D.Ruane, B.Kelly, A.Naughton, J.Cullen, M.Carr.
We play Eastern Harps this weekend at home. Time and day to be arranged later in the week.
Senior
We had Geevagh as visitors to Corballa on Sunday afternoon for the penultimate round of the division 1 league. This was a relegation four pointer but we were not helped by the unavailability of 8 senior players due to injury. Despite this we played well in the first half and despite losing David Fox to injury, we turned over at the break losing 0-6 v 0-4. It was tight for the first 10 minutes of the half but then Geevagh started to take over and when Paul Kilcullen then had to leave the field we were left to finish the last quarter of the game with 14 players. Geevagh deserved their win on a score of 0-14 v 0-6. We are now relegated to division 2 for the 2010 season. It is now 5 weeks to championship and it is hoped that some of the injuries will clear up in time for this. Team: B.Barrins, K.Barrett, J.Tuffy, D.Fox, A.Naughton, M.Langan, J.O'Regan, K.Naughton, P.Kilcullen, B.Curley, A.Cawley, F.Barrett, P.Maughan, N.Fox, N.Judge. Subs; C.Gordon. Training continues on Tuesday and Thursday at 8pm
