U-12 Our U-12 Development Team lost out to strong Coolera side in the Shield semi-final in Markievicz Park on Sunday last. The St. Mary's Team were without four of their strongest players but under the circumstances they showed great commitment and determination on the day. The full squad on Sunday was Jack McDonagh, Kevin Fidgeon, Robert Allen, Conor Darcy, Stephen Mulligan, Tony O'Kelly Lynch, Thomas O'Hehir, Peter Waters, Ryan Feeney, Ross Bannigan and Matthew Murphy. Missing on the day were Mark Keegan, Marc Ryan, Nathan Hargadon and Jake Hargadon. Our U-12's won the County 'A' Cup Final in dramatic style last Monday 15th June in a packed Markievicz Park. In the semi-final we were up against a very strong Calry/St. Joseph's side, with outstanding performances by Paul Kilcoyne and Kyle Cawley we won the battle of midfield. Hadi Moussa was magnificent in defence along side Oisin Kelly and Ryan Feehily. St. Mary's finished on top and were in line to meet a much fancied Drumcliffe/Rosses Point in the Final. It was a perfect evening for football with no wind and the pitch surface was in excellent condition. Drumcliff started the strongest with Cian McBride in excellent form, our forwards battled well up front with Niall Murray and Lee McMorrow taking some excellent scores. Nathan Rooney and Niall McDermott were strong in the half forwards contributing to many St. Mary's scores. Paul Kilcoyne again had an excellent game along side Kyle Cawley. At half time we were five points down but St. Mary's came out in the second half full of determination and commitment, Marc Ryan, Jake Hargadon and Shayaan Khan were introduced which added extra sharpness to the team. Kyle and Paul dominated the midfield in the second half and the Mary's defence made up of Kevin Fidgeon, Robert Allen, Oisin, Ryan and Hadi were all excellent form. It was all square after full time with nine points each, but St. Mary's showed real character in extra time scoring three superb points to Drumcliff's one point with Lee McMorrow being the outstanding forward in extra time. The final score was 12 point to 10 in what was one of the most impressive displays by an underage St. Mary's team ever. The management team led by Aidan Rooney were delighted with the win and thanked the team and their parents for their commitment and character which they showed throughout the season. The full Squad was Hadi Mousa, Lee McMorrow, Ryan Feehily(c), Robert Allen, Neil Murray, Kevin Fidgeon, Paul Kilcoyne, Oisin Kelly, Nathan Rooney, Kyle Cawley, Niall McDermott, Shane O'Hehir, Shayaan Kahn. Hurling Well done to Naomh Eoin U-14 hurlers who performed well in Feile na nGael in Laois Offaly at the weekend. They were hosted by St. Oliver Plunketts Hurling Club in Mullingar who won their Division of Feile. They attended the Kilkenny v Galway match and had an enjoyable experience over the weekend. Well done to underage hurling coaches Bill O'Kelly Lynch and Pat Hickey. Saturday Morning Coaching Coaching continues for Children aged 5 to 12 each Saturday Morning from 10:30am to 12pm. We ask more coaches to make themselves available each Saturday to cater for the growing attendances. Senior The Senior side drew with Calry/St. Joseph's on Sunday afternoon last in the Division 2 League in Hazelwood. Mary's led at half time on a scoreline of 0-6 to 0-5 with David Caffrey and Seamus Burns prominent. The visitors stretched their lead to three points ten minutes into the second half. However the home side got through for a goal to level the scores and the teams could not be separated as the match finished in a draw on a scoreline of St. Mary's 0-11 Calry/St. Joseph's 1-8. Training continues for both the Senior and Intermediate Squads this week on Tuesday and Friday. 400 Club Draw Our 400 Club Draw has been launched with tickets selling well.
