Cup joy for Curry and Shamrock Gaels

June 04, 2009
Both Curry and Shamrock Gaels have picked up some welcome early-season silverware. Curry claimed the Pick 'n' Choose Cup with a superb 1-16 to 1-8 defeat of Eastern Harps in the decider at Tubbercurry on Saturday. In a repeat of the 2008 SFC semi-final, Curry held sway in the second half to take the silverware. Brian McDonagh was the wining captain and he slotted over four points, while Stephen Kilcoyne hit 0-8 for the winners. Meanwhile, Shamrock Gaels beat Bunninadden by 1-11 to 0-6 at the same venue on Friday night to take the Kiernan Cup. Captained by Damien Lyons, the Gaels were underdogs as they had lost to the same opposition in both rounds of the league, but Joe Quinn hit 0-9 as they took the spoils.
