Juniors pipped to final by Rossies' late show

May 21, 2009
Roscommon 0-14 Sligo 1-9 Two late placed kicks from Martin Reynolds and Paul Garvey sent Roscommon into this year's Connacht JFC decider after they edged out Sligo at Markievicz Park last Friday evening. It was the hosts who had raced out of traps for this last four clash when Stephen Coen pointed after just 18 seconds, but by the tenth minute the Rossies were 0-4 to 0-2 ahead, with the points coming from Martin Reynolds, Damien Keenehan and Cathal McHugh. Coen hit the perfect reply for Sligo with a fine goal on 18 minutes, as the Yeats men took in a 1-5 to 0-6 lead at the half-time interval. Roscommon hit three points in the opening five minutes of the restart, with Senan O'Grady, Paul Garvey and James McKeague all on target to help the visitors get 0-9 to 1-5 in front. Donnacha Gallagher levelled the game for the men in black and both sides traded score for score until Martin Reynolds sailed over a pressure '45' with three minutes to go and Garvey landed a free injury-time, which pushed last year's All-Ireland finalists into the 2009 Connacht JFC final.
