U16 Hurling

Tullamore GAA's two U-16 h hurling teams completed their championship group fixtures over the last couple of week.

The Tullamore Blues (team 2) hosted Edenderry in O'Brien park in a game that had no bearing on the championship because of other results in earlier rounds but it did not show on the field as the Blues Boys played like a team trying to get to the final. Tullamore started very well with Cormac Kelly and Cody Walsh scoring from every opportunity in the first 15 minutes. Edenderry came into the game by making their superior height advantage count as the made a real contest of the first half notching 6 points but the home side also finish strong with goals from Tristan Walsh and Dylan Boland and points from C Kelly. The Visitors played the better hurling early in the second half and scored 3 unanswered points and could have scored more but they came up against an inform Adam Roche in the Tullamore goals. From Adams inspiration the Tullamore lads then took over scored a further 2:05 from D Boland, C Walsh and C Kelly. Cillian Farrell's Edenderry came back with 1:02 but the last action of the match was a well deserved goal from Eoin Jack after his great work all game. Unfortunately the game and points were awarded to the visitors before the game but played the game in the interest of everyone getting meaningful hurling action.

On Monday 15th the other Tullamore U-16 hurling team (Whites) travelled to Knnitty to take on Cuchulainn Gaels in their final group game in the A Championship.  This game was different in that Tullamore were not allowed to play their usual game due to the commitment of the home side in their 'do or die' game as far as staying in the championship was concerned. The first half was like a war of attrition with both side fighting tooth and nail for every ball, every brake, every possession and every score. The home side were first to register a point but Diarmuid Egan replied soon after with a point for Tullamore. Cuchulainn again pointed but Sean Robilliard's point levelled the score again. With Tullamore knocked off their usual game Cuchulainn score 2 points during a sustained spell of pressure but Tullamore clawed them back with 2 D Egan points. The best move of the match saw Cuchulainn Gaels win possession on the half back line working the sliótar up the field and crash it to the net for what seemed a vital goal in a game of few scoring chances but just before the break C Kelly reduced the defecate to 2 point with a pointed free. After been given some direction at half time Tullamore came out a very hungry team and for 20 minutes dominated in defence and attack scoring points from S Robilliard (2), D Egan (2), C Kelly (2) and one each from Ciaran Egan and Matthew Keegan with a pointed free the only reply from the home side.  As Tullamore seem to relax the home side should they were still in the C/Ship until the final whistle and out fought and out score Tullamore as they hit 5 unanswered points to level the game with 2 minutes remaining. The Tullamore lads had to dig deeper and anytime before and as a goal chance was pushed out for a 65, up stepped Aidan Bracken to split the post with a super strike to again gain a slender lead. With time just up Tullamore were rewarded a free which C Kelly drove over the bar to leave the final score Cuchulainn Gaels 1:10 Tullamore 0:15. Tullamore travelled to Kinnity to win the game to stay top of their group but were made work so hard by a very gallant Cuchulainn Gaels side. Tullamore got their win but also feel like they used their 'Get Out Of Jail Free' card.

Lining out for Tullamore in both matches were: A Roche, C Lambe, J Mahon, C Martin, E Jack, C Kelly, D Boland, C Walsh, C McDermott, T Walsh, C O'Sullivan, C Waters, D Connolly, J Dwyer, P Martin, A Bracken, K Mann, D Egan, S Courtney, C Egan, S Robilliard, S Wright, M Keegan, K Kelleher, C Digan, J O'Reilly, M Feeney With Team 2 now finished in the group Tullamore need every member to join as one squad to drive on in the 'A' Championship. TrainingTuesday's and Thursday's.
