Offaly threw a spanner in Limerick's promotion hopes last night and Faithful manager Brian Whelahan was proud of his players.

The visitors upset the odds to record a 1-21 to 0-21 success at the Gaelic Grounds and the result was just reward for their hard work on the training field according to their manager.

"I'm thrilled for the squad of players that we have in with us because they have worked tirelessly, they've worked as hard as any team that's in training at the moment," he told Midlands Sport.

"Tonight was all about them and I think they answered a lot of people tonight with their style of win.

"Some of the scores we got in the second half and the way they worked the ball as well. It's maybe not the prettiest way to be hurling at times but that's the way the game has gone. I think we used the ball very well tonight and got some great scores.

"Look at the lads we left off tonight. They came in and, I suppose, answered everybody, management as well.

"That's the type of reaction that we're looking for. We want competition for places, we need competition for places. Slowly but surely we're getting there.

"Tonight was a great win for those boys in that dressing room."
