Flanagan: we need to improve

Last Sunday's draw against Leitrim gave Offaly football manager Pat Flanagan plenty of food for thought.

The Faithful County held an eight point advantage at the halfway stage but were lucky to draw in the end and their manager says there is plenty of room for improvement ahead of this Sunday's encounter with Carlow.

"We are very disappointed with the display to be honest," Flanagan revealed to The Midland Tribune.

"We were very flat for long periods and we need to have a look to improve for the Carlow match.

"It typifies where Offaly are at, and I said this to the boys inside - it's no disrespect to them at all but we looked nervous in the second half and looked afraid that we were going to lose.

"With fear came anxiety and we started to throw away ball and started for foul badly."

On a more positive note, the Faithful manager gave credit to his team for salvaging a draw.

"To show the character that they did in the last five minutes, when Leitrim went ahead, they realised they had to so something about it.

"Psychologically it was good to recover and get the draw but psychologically you could also see that we were struggling in the second half out there."
