Offaly SHC: Double Ks and Rynagh's march on

September 14, 2014

Offaly's Thomas Geraghty in action for Kilcormac/Killoughey. INPHO

Three-in-a-row chasing Kilcormac /Killoughey and St. Rynagh's will be in today's draw for the Offaly SHC semi-finals after overcoming Ballinamere and Belmont respectively last night.

In the first of the quarter-finals at O'Connor Park, Kilcormac/Killoughey produced a strong second half showing to defeat last year's intermediate champions Ballinamere on a 3-21 to 2-14 scoreline.

Danny Owens' charges looked to be on their way to a comfortable victory when quick-fire goals from Dylan Murray and Peter Geraghty gave them a 2-5 to 0-4 lead midway through the first half, but Paddy Murphy raised a green flag at the other end to leave the underdogs just three points adrift, 1-8 to 2-8, at the break.

However, the Double Ks upped the ante into the second period to win with plenty to spare.

In the second quarter-final, St. Rynagh's defeated local rivals Belmont by 0-19 to 1-8. Rynagh's led by 0-11 to 1-4 at half-time, despite having Gary Conneely sent off. They continued to keep Belmont at arm's length in the second half before the losers had Colin Egan sent off and lost David Kenny to injury late on.

Birr hosts the two remaining quarter-finals - Shinrone v Coolderry and Birr v Seir Kieran - this afternoon.
