Duignan opts not to make himself available

Offaly's Michael Duignan
Michael Duignan has ruled himself out of the race to become Offaly senior hurling manager.

The double All-Ireland winner - who works as a TV analyst with RTE - is understood to have been high up on the selection committee's list of candidates but he has told the County Board that he would not be able to take on the challenge.

The four-man selection committee was expected to name its recommended successor to Ollie Baker tonight but this now looks unlikely to happen as a number of high-profile candidates have ruled themselves out of contention.

As well as Duignan, the likes of John Allen, Martin Fogarty and Ken Hogan have also declared their unavailability.

And successive Kilcormac/KIlloughey supremo Danny Owens says he hasn't been approached about the post.
