JUNIOR B FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP
Raheen Junior Footballers ended the group stage of their Championship campaign as they started with a defeat against Ballycumber in Ballycumber last Friday evening on a scoreline of 3-11 to 1-08 but will be gratefull for the 4 wins in the intervening period which are enough to see Raheen through to the Quarter Finals. Raheen started the game well and were in control as they built up a 3 points to 1 point lead by the 12th minute with the Raheen scores from Eoghan Bolton, Keith Quinn and Craig O'Halloran. Then disaster struck for Raheen, first full back Declan Costello was forced off injured and over the next 10 minutes Ballycumber took full advantage of some sloppy defending by Raheen as they got through to score 3-03 without reply. Raheen did finish out the half by sending over 3 unanswered points from Eoghan Bolton (2) and Jimmy Coughlan to cut the defecit, but went in to the break trailing by 3-04 to 0-06. Ballycumber increased their lead within the first 3 minutes of the second half as they added 2 points in a row. In the 4th minute Raheen got back into it by scoring their goal when Brian Crombie took a free out around midfield, sending it in to John McEvoy on the endline just outside the square to run in and pass it to Eoghan Bolton who caught it and shot to the net. Raheen then pointed a free 3 minutes later from Eoghan Bolton to reduce the defecit to 5 points. This was as good as it for Raheen as over the remaining 23 minutes Ballycumber controlled the play stretching their lead as they added another 5 points to a single pointed free reply for Raheen from Eoghan Bolton. Raheen now move into the quarter-finals where they will take on Ferbane which will take place on a time and date to be announced on the weekend after next.

JUNIOR HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP
Raheen Hurlers slumped to second successive defeat in their penultimate match of the group stage of the Junior Championship against Belmont last Sunday evening in Moystown on a scoreline of 2-10 to 2-13 in a game played in glorious sunshine throughout. Raheen opened the scoring with a point from Cathal Maher in the first attack from the throw in but Belmont replied with a point immediately to open their account. Raheen then added 2 points from Keith Quinn and Paddy Rigney before getting in to score their first goal in the 4th minute when Paddy Rigney won a puck out in midfield and ran in the whole way to blast the ball to the net from just outside the square. Raheen then added 3 more points from Jason Hassett (2) and Paddy Rigney before Belmont got going in the 9th minute by scoring their first goal which they followed immediately with a point. The next 15 minutes saw Belmont get right back into the game to draw level by scoring 1-02 with a single point reply for Raheen from Matthew O'Byrne. Then just on the stroke of half time Raheen were awarded a 65' which Jason Hassett sent over the bar which saw Raheen go into the break leading by the minimum 1-08 to 2-04. Belmont started the second half by scoring 2 points to go in front for the first time but Raheen hit back in the 3rd minute to score their 2nd goal when Paddy Rigney weaved his way in from about 40m out before firing his shot across the square to the corner of the net. The next 20 minutes saw Belmont convert the chances that came their way as they added 5 points with Raheen miss a number of opportunities replying with just a pointed free from Jason Hassett. Then in the 27th minute Danny McEvoy put over a point for Raheen to leave them trailing by just a single point. Belmont sealed the win by adding the final 2 points in the remaining minutes although Raheen did have a 65' with the last piece of play which was sent into the square causing a scramble before the final whistle was blown.

MINOR FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP
Na Fianna Minor Footballers suffered another defeat of their Championship campaign last Wednesday evening in Geashill against neighbours St Vincents on a scoreline of 3-15 to 1-08. The first half proved to be a total nightmare for Na Fianna as St Vincents slowly built up a head of steam registering 2-09 by the 24th minute when Na Fianna hit over their first and only point of the half from Michael James Pierce. The remaining 6 minutes saw St Vincents add another 2 points to go into the break with a very comfortable lead of 2-11 to 0-01. The opening 10 minutes of the second half saw a much improved performance by Na Fianna as they chalked up 5 points from Michael James Pierce, Ronan Crombie, Jack Keogh (2) and Dan Floody to which St Vincents replied with 1-03. Then in the 13th minute Na Fianna added some respectability to the scoreboard by scoring their goal when a free out in midfield was lobbed in to the edge of the square where it was caught by Jason Darby who turned and rounded the keeper to shoot to the net. At this stage the game was well over as a contest and so both sides used the opportunity to make use of their full compliment of subs and so the remaining 17 minutes of the game filtered out with St Vincents adding just 1 more point and Na Fianna sending over 2 points from Richie Reynolds and Michael James Pierce.
