Doon club notes

Intermediate Championship
Doon 4-10 Ballyfore 1-04
On Sunday week last, Doon continued their impressive form of late with a comprehensive victory over a disappointing Ballyfore side. A dream start for Doon resulted in a ten minute hat trick for corner forward Micko Kelly. The pick of the 3 goals resulted from good work from Donie Ryan cutting in from the end line before picking out Kelly who expertly dispatched to the roof of the Ballyfore net. Further first half points came from Donie Ryan and James Coughlan (2 each), William Healy, John Egan and Micko Kelly put Doon into a facile lead of 3-07 to 0-2 at the half time break. After the break, the expected Ballyfore revival didn't materialize and although a converted penalty put some respectability on the scoreboard, once centre forward Trevor Phelan scored a wonderful individual goal, the crowd were making their way towards the exit.

Division 2 Football League Semi-Final
Doon 0-7 St. Rynaghs 0-4
In a poor game, Doon showed the greater resilience to emerge victorious in this local derby in Ferbane on Sunday last. In a game that most likely won't be a contender for game of the season, Doon won't worry too much about that as they maintained their momentum and winning habit of late. Both sides found scores hard to come by and it was still one point each as the 20th minute approached. However, the last ten minutes of the first half saw 5 points divided in St. Rynaghs favour ensuring a 4 points to 3 lead for Rynaghs at the break having playing with the aid of a slight breeze. In terms of quality, the second half failed to offer up much more, and incidentally it was a half that Rynaghs actually failed to register on the scoreboard at all. And it was left to the last ten minutes again of the half that Doon notched 4 unanswered points, the highlight a fine score from the boot of substitute Niall Kelly, which ensured that it was Doon who proceed to the final of the Division 2 league.
Team:
Niall Hennessy; Paul Heavin, Fintan Ryan, Declan Rohan; Anthony Phelan, David Larkin, Adrian Egan; Des Egan, Alec Mooney; Blaine Rigney, John Egan, William Healy; Micko Kelly (0-1), Donie Ryan (0-2 1f), James Coughlan (0-3 2 frees); Subs: Marcus Egan for Mooney (45 mins), Niall Kelly for Blaine Rigney (50) and Paul Heavin for John Egan (55)
