Ferbane club notes
August 19, 2010
SENIOR CHAMPIONSHIP
Ferbane's senior footballers left themselves with it all to do after falling short by a point against St. Brigids in the penultimate round of the group stages. After a good start and leading at half time, a poor spell early in the second half allowed the Croghan men to take the lead and despite a fine finish where a four point lead was pegged back to a single score, Ferbane just failed to get back on level terms. The lads now play Gracefield in the final round of the group stages and need a win as well as a favour from either Clara or Tullamore.
JUNIOR A CHAMPIONSHIP
The Junior A championship campaign came to an end last week despite a good win over Clonmore Harps in the final group game. Two wins from five games wasn't enough to secure a place in the top four and scoring difference also played a part in what was a disappointing campaign. However this was one of the youngest teams to play junior A football for a long time and several players proved that they have a great future ahead of them by competing very well with players who had a lot more experience on board. The club would like to thank manager George Digan and his management team of John Keena, John Kelly and Thady Clancy who did great work with this new look panel, moulding them into a very competitive unit.
JUNIOR B CHAMPIONSHIP
The Junior B footballers secured top spot in their group with a final win over Shannonbridge last Thursday, winning out on a 2-14 to 0-1 scoreline. Goals from Dermot Kenny, Colm Kenny and another significant haul from Nicky Claffey played a significant part in the win and the team now begins preparations for a quarter final, most likely against a well fancied Ballycumber team.
The team that played against Shannonbridge was:
Aengus Coughlan; Tom Gilligan, Warren Walsh, Joe Kenny, Dermot Kenny (1-0), Shane Dunne, Joe Kearns (0-1); Brian Gleeson (0-1), Gerry O'Malley; Kevin Flynn (0-1), Brendan Wynne, Colm Kenny; Mel Keenaghan (0-1), Joe Kenny, Nicky Claffey (0-6).
Subs: Barry Keenan, David Egan, Darren Digan, David Cox.
BEST OF LUCK
Good luck to Belmont hurlers who play Birr in a do or die fixture in Lusmagh tonight (Friday) at 7.15pm. Best of luck also to Ferbane/Belmont under 14 footballers who play Clara in the championship semi final on Saturday morning at 11am in Tubber. All support would be greatly appreciated for both these teams.
