INTERMEDIATE FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP
Raheen Intermediate Footballers sealed their spot in the Quarter Finals of the Championship after demolishing Clara last Thursday evening in Clara on a scoreline of 5-14 to 0-08 in their penultimate game of the group stage and in doing so are almost certain to top their group. Raheen started the game at a blistering pace and by the 15th minute had amassed an incredible 4-07 to Clara's single point by which time the game was well and truly over as a contest. Amazingly it took another 10 minutes for Raheen to register their next score with a point by which time Clara had scored their second point. Then within a minute Raheen got in to score another 1-01 which proved to be their final scores of the half and so Raheen went into the break leading by 5-09 to 0-02, a margin of 22 points. With nothing to play for in the second half Raheen eased back completely and so the half proved to be a much quieter affair when compared to the excitement of the first half with Raheen managing to convert just a further 5 points to which Clara replied with 6 points which saw them win the second half battle but a long way from getting out of the contest.
RAHEEN: Mark Byrne, Cathal Maher, Brian Kehoe, Ciaran Coughlan, Brian Corcoran, Conor Carroll, Liam Boland, Padraig Bracken, Mark Gorman, Shane Carroll, Damien Arnold, Danny McEvoy, Colin McHugh, Paddy Rigney, David Crombie.
SUB: John Crombie (for Danny McEvoy)
JUNIOR B FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP
Raheen Junior Footballers made it 4 wins in a row in their Junior B Championship campaign, this time on the field, as they saw off the challenge of the previously unbeaten St Rynaghs in Geashill last Friday evening on a scoreline of 2-13 to 1-11. St Rynaghs did open the scoring with a point in the 3rd minute but their lead was short lived as over the next 10 minutes Raheen got off the mark with 6 points from Garrett Garry (3), Noel Gorman and Eoghan Bolton (2) to a single point reply from St Rynaghs. Raheen then pulled further ahead in the 15th minute by scoring their opening goal when a high ball was caught by Pat Guinan who flicked it over his shoulder to the in-running Keith Quinn who shot first time to the net. This seemed to motivate St Rynaghs into action as over the remaining 15 minutes of the half they got in to score 1-04 without reply to draw level and so the sides went into the break tied at 1-06 apiece. The opening 10 minutes of the second half saw the sides add just a point apiece with Raheen's effort from Niall Carthy. Then in the 10th minute Raheen gave themselves some breathing space by scoring their second goal when John McEvoy done very well to keep the ball in play when under pressure on the sideline before lobbing it in to the edge of the square to Pat Guinan who laid it off to Garrett Garry in the clear to run in and blast the ball to the net and this was quickly followed by a pointed free for Raheen from Eoghan Bolton. Alike the first goal this again inspired St Rynaghs as over the next 10 minutes they hit over 4 points in a row to draw level. Both sides then missed chances to take the lead until the last 3 minutes of normal time and injury time when Raheen used their superior ability to pull the game out of the fire as they sent over 3 pointed frees from Eoghan Bolton and 2 points from play from Jimmy Coughlan to claim the win and their spot in the quarter finals also with a game to spare.
RAHEEN: Dean Cahill, Karl O'Byrne, Declan Costello, Paul Garry, Paddy Arnold, Niall Carthy (0-01), Martin Nugent, Noel Gorman (0-01), Niall Leavy, Keith Quinn (1-00), Jimmy Coughlan (0-02), Garrett Garry (1-03), Eoghan Bolton (0-06), Pat Guinan, John McEvoy.
SUBS: Brian Crombie (for Paul Garry), Matthew O'Byrne (for Martin Nugent).
JUNIOR HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP
Raheen Hurlers will be looking to make it 3 wins in a row which would put them in a strong position to secure a spot in the Junior Championship Quarter Finals as they take on Kilcormac / Killoughey in their latest game of their Championship campaign this Thursday evening (18th August) at 7:15pm in Geashill. Best of Luck to players and management. All support would be appreciated.

G.A.A CLUB NOTES
DATE : 17 AUGUST 2010
MINOR FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP
Na Fianna Minor Footballers suffered their second defeat in their Championship second round encounter against Tullamore in Geashill last Wednesday evening on a scoreline of 1-14 to 0-07. Na Fianna started brightly as they kept with their neighbouring opponents throughout the opening 20 minutes in a good end to end tussle with Na Fianna getting off the mark with 5 points from Richie Reynolds, Michael James Pierce, Gary Martin, Aaron Dwane and David Jordan but Tullamore were marginally in front as they opened their account with 7 points. Then in the 26th minute came the moment which effectively decided the outcome of the game as Tullamore got in to score their goal when a line ball was taken short but worked in quickly to the square where they blasted the ball low to the net. This is how it remained up until half time and so Na Fianna went into the break trailing by 1-07 to 0-05. The opening 10 minutes of the second half saw both sides miss chances for further scores but then the next 10 minutes saw Tullamore increase their lead having added 3 more points with Na Fianna responding with a single point from Michael James Pierce. With the game now over as a contest the final 10 minutes afforded Tullamore the opportunity to take chances they may not have done in a close encounter and so this saw them tag on another 4 points to complete their scoring before Na Fianna's Jack Keogh pointed a free in stoppage tome for the final score of the game which was only a consolation score.
NA FIANNA: Dean Cahill, Mikey Keogh, James Buckley, James Garry, David Jordan (0-01), Brian Corcoran, Jason Floody, Jack Keogh (0-01), Gavin Ridgeway, Gary Martin (0-01), Michael James Pierce (0-02), Brian Crombie, Dan Floody, Aaron Dwane (0-01), Richie Reynolds (0-01).
