Intermediate Championship
Doon 1-19 Bracknagh 2-08
On Sunday evening last, Doon recorded their first victory of the 2010 Intermediate championship in somewhat convincing style. Doon were rapidly out of the blocks racing into a 5 point without reply lead with points from Trevor Phelan, Micko Kelly (3) and James Coghlan. With the Doon forward line combining brilliantly as a unit, space was at a premium in the early stages. However, Bracknagh replied with 2 unanswered points before Micko Kelly combined with Donie Ryan to blast to the back of the Bracknagh net. Further points from Coghlan, Phelan, Kelly and John Egan on the stroke of half time allowed Doon to take a 1-12 to 0-05 half time advantage.
After the resumption, Bracknagh responded more positively and outscored Doon by 2 points to one inside the opening ten minutes of the second half. Then, a converted penalty followed by another goal reduced the margin to just 3 points with ten minutes remaining. However, this was as close as Bracknagh got and 2 points from substitute Blaine Rigney and excellent points from Donie Ryan, James Coghlan and John Egan afforded Doon to prevail by 8 points at the final whistle.
