Gavin to ref Kilkenny/Cork clash

August 04, 2010
Offaly whistler Brian Gavin will take charge of Sunday's All-Ireland hurling semi-final between Kilkenny and Cork at Croke Park.

The Clara native is one of hurling's most experienced referees and was the man in the middle for Cork's Munster final replay loss to Waterford last month. His appointment for Sunday's game is likely to rule him out of the running for the All-Ireland final, however, as it is highly unusual for one of the semi-final referees to get the 'big one'.

Cork's David Copps, meanwhile, will referee the ESB All-Ireland minor hurling semi-final between Galway and Kilkenny, which will act as the curtain-raiser to senior clash.
