Bad week on the results front
After the Junior B hurlers loss to Clara, earlier in the week, the Junior A hurlers lost to fellow parishioners Raheen, on Friday night, the bad run continued when the Junior footballers lost to Kilcormac/Killoughey on Monday night.
Junior A Hurling. Killeigh 1-8: Raheen 1-9.
A one point loss to neighbours Raheen, in this game. Killeigh led at half time, 1-4 to 0-5, despite dominating possession, Killeigh were only 2 points ahead at the break. This proved costly, as Raheen added an early point. Both sides traded points but the decisive score came when raheen scored a scrambled goal to lead 1-7 to 1-5. Further points followd for both sides, and while Killeigh laid siege to the Raheen goal, they weren't accurate enough to alter the result.
This defeat may have cost Killeigh a place in the knockout stages.
Junior Football; Killeigh 2-5: Kilcormac/ Killoughrey 3-6:
Most of the excitement and scores came in the second half of this game. The first half saw the teams level 0-3 each at half time, both sides were a little score shy in front of goal, the visitors scoring the first point after 16 minutes. Gus O'Brien scored our first point after 25 minutes, and the sides exchanged pointsin the closing stages, Darragh O'Brien finished the half with his second point for Killeigh.
The opening 10 minutes of the second period really decided the result, Kilcormac/Killoughey scored a point, and then went on a 3 goal scoring spree, to lead 3-4 to 0-3. Darragh O'Brien pointed from a free, but it was game on when Gus O'Brien broke through from midfield to score a fine goal, Enda Gorman added a point to leave the score 3-4 to 1-5. Darragh O'Brien did very well to finish the ball to the net, it was now down to a 2 point game 3-4 to 2-5, with 10 minutes left, and victory a real possibility.
However, Kil/Kil. fiished with 2 late points to finish 4 points ahead.
This was Killeigh's first loss in the championship, (the unbeaten run in all games stretches back to May), and they still lead the group on scoring difference of + 9 points. With the return of a few players from leave, Killeigh should get things back on track.
Scorers: Darragh O'Brien 1-3. Gus O'Brien 1-1, Enda Gorman 0--1.
Subs: Gary O'Rourke for Paul O'Rourke first half. Willie Fox for Brian Lawlor, and Dean Monaghan for GaryO'Rourke, both second half changes.
Next Tuesday August 3rd, the B hurlers have a quarter final v Lusmagh, in Kilcormac. All support welcome, and we look forward to pulling off a win.
