NFL 3: Sligo pip Faithful

March 14, 2010
Eamonn O'Hara made his first appearance in this year's NFL Division 3 as Sligo eked out a one-point victory over Offaly at Markievicz Park.

Sligo 0-12
Offaly 0-11

After their heavy loss to Wexford last weekend, Sligo were determined to bounce back, but they made life difficult for themselves by making basic mistakes and were somewhat fortunate to win in the end as points from substitute Sean Davey and Kenneth Sweeney gave them the edge.

With Niall McNamee to the fore, Offaly threatened to take the home side apart in the first half, but Sligo hung in there and a couple of late points from Alan Costello and Stephen Gilmartin gave them a slender 0-8 to 0-7 half-time lead.

Alan Lynam brought Offaly level before a superb point by McNamee gave the visitors the lead. But with O'Hara coming off the bench and Mark Breheny in fine scoring form, Sligo regained the initiative and they were looking good when Kenneth Sweney, who was also making his return from injury, put them 0-12 to 0-10 up with 15 minutes remaining.

But despite failing to score again, they held on for the narrowest of wins.
