Underage coaches to be vetted by Gardai

March 12, 2010
County chairman Pat Teehan has confirmed that underage GAA coaches will be vetted by the Gardai.

At the latest gathering of the Offaly GAA County Board, Teehan stated that from now on it will be a legal obligation for all coaches working with children to be vetted before the end of the year.

Clubs are being asked to co-operate with the move, which has the best interests of children at its core.

The chairman has stressed that no coach should be left alone with any team unless he has first been checked by Gardai.

He pointed out that of the 10,000 people vetted on behalf of the GAA thus far, only five had been refused ... and none of these for sexual offences.
