Kilcormac/Killoughey clinch O'Connor Cup
March 05, 2010
Kilcormac/Killoughey 1-14
Kinnitty 0-16
Kilcormac/Killoughey edged out Kinnitty in a thriller last Saturday to take the O'Connor Cup on their home turf at Kilcormac.
In an airtight affair, the winners led by 0-10 to 0-8 at the break, before Kinnitty threatened to take over at the start of the second-half by pucking over three points from Colm Coughlan to move into the lead.
Kilcormac/Killoughey pulled the game back level and Trevor Fletcher fired in the game's only goal, which looked to have the hosts on their way but, to their credit, Kinnitty battled back bravely and squared the sides once more.
With extra-time looking, sharpshooter Ciaran Slevin was presented with the chance to win it in the added minutes for Kilcormac/Killoughey and he made no mistake in splitting the posts from a free to lead his team to the Cup named after club great Michael O'Connor.
