DIV 2 FOOTBALL LEAGUE FINAL
Raheen suffered another final heartbreak when the Intermediate Footballers were defeated by Edenderry in the Final of the Div 2 Football League last Friday evening in Gracefield on a scoreline of 1-10 to 1-04. Edenderry got the perfect start to the game as they opened their account by scoring a goal in the second minute when a quickly taken free out around the 21m line beside the sideline was lobbed in high over the full back line where it was taken by a player running through who found himself one on one with Raheen keeper Mark Byrne and shot to the corner of the net. Edenderry got their first point which came from a placed ball 10 minutes later before Raheen got off the mark in the 13th minute with a point from Danny McEvoy but Edenderry added 2 more points within a minute at the midway point of the half. Then in the last 10 minutes of the half both sides kicked over 2 points apiece with the Raheen efforts from Danny McEvoy and Colin McHugh. This saw Edenderry lead at the break by 1-05 to 0-03. In the second half Raheen had the first opportunity of a score inside the first minute which they missed and Edenderry went straight down the field and were awarded a free which they duly sent over. Raheen had 3-4 further good scoring chances which they missed and would later regret. Then in the 10th minute Raheen got right back into the game when a free out around 45m line and sideline was taken by Shane Carroll who passed it to his brother Conor who showed his skills by running at the defence and when on the edge of the square blasted a shot to the top corner of the net for a goal. Despite this Raheen were unable to build on the goal and the game remained scoreless for the next 10 minutes. Then in the last 10 minutes of the game Edenderry sealed the win and the title by adding 4 more points which were replied to by a single point for Raheen from Danny McEvoy.
