Feile finals switched to Tullamore
June 17, 2009
This weekend's Feile na nGael finals have been moved to Tullamore following concerns over the playing surface in Birr.
The St. Brendan's Park pitch has been experiencing difficulties since it was redeveloped two years ago, and following an inspection of the venue conducted by members of the National Feile na nGael executive committee in recent days, it was decided to switch the finals to Tullamore.
The finals of the six hurling and four camogie competitions will now be played on Sunday in O'Connor Park and O'Brien Park, which is located across the road for the county grounds. O'Connor Park will also host the big Leinster SHC semi-final between Kilkenny and Galway on Saturday.
Crinkle GAA club, which is situated just outside Birr, was due to host four of the finals, but they have been moved to O'Brien Park for 'organisational purposes'.
St. Brendan's Park was scheduled to host six finals (Divisions 1, 2, 3 & 4 in hurling, Divisions 1 & 2 in camogie) and Crinkle GAA was scheduled to host four finals (Divisions 5 & 6 in hurling, Divisions 3 & 4 in camogie).
The Féile na nGael opening parade, which is a highlight of the weekend, will take place as planned in Birr on Friday evening, commencing at 7.30pm.
