Offaly minor match row saga rumbles on

November 12, 2008
The saga surrounding last month's abandoned Offaly minor football semi-final between Edenderry and St. Vincent's shows no sign of ending after a series of appeals were lodged against the fines and bans imposed. The game was abandoned on October 11 after a mass brawl involving players and supporters. It was due to be replayed in Geashill last Saturday, but was called off as a result of the ongoing process. Both clubs were fined EUR5,000 by the Offaly Coiste na nOg, while a total of 384 weeks in suspensions were handed down to five individuals. It is understood that the appeals will be heard later this week. The winners of the replayed tie, whenever it is played, will face Tullamore in the final.
