Leinster club SHC: Birr ease into last four

November 09, 2008
Offaly champions Birr showed that they are still a force to be reckoned with as they comfortably defeated Dublin counterparts Ballyboden St Enda's by 1-17 to 0-8 at Parnell Park on Saturday afternoon. The match was virtually over as a contest by half time as Birr lead by 0-14 to 0-4 with the Whelehan brothers Simon and Brian contributing eight points between them in a match that the Dublin side had genuine designs on winning. When the sides met in the Leinster final last year, Ballyboden made Birr work all the way, but the Offaly side made no mistake this time around with a devastating display to march on to the final against either Ballyhale Shamrocks or Raharney. The only goal of the game came in the 49th minute when Birr's Stephen Browne found the back of the net to effectively kill the game off as a contest, which was disappointing for the large crowd present.
