AIB Ulster Club SFC preliminary round

October 20, 2014

Clontibret 1-9 Kilcoo (Down) 0-11.

Clontibret staged a late dramatic smash and grab act when they struck for a goal in injury time to snatch victory from under the noses of the Down champions, Kilcooe in this tough, hard hitting and at times attritional contest that was played in difficult conditions in Newry yesterday. And Clontibret did it the hard way in that they played with 14 men from the 13th minute of the first half when Paul McGuigan was dismissed on a black card but having already been booked it was a red card and he could not be replaced. Kilcoo led at half-time by 0-6 to 0-5 but approaching the end of the third quarter Clontibret had taken a two points lead, the accuracy of Conor McManus vital. However Kilcoo fought back and going into the final minutes of normal time they had opened a two points lead only to be caught at the death when Dessie Mone palmed to the net. Clontibret now place St. Gall's of Antrim in the quarter-final on Sunday, November 2nd.
