Sudden-death play-off for hurlers

Monaghan keeper Gerry Ruddy makes another save against Donegal in the Rackard Cup at Clones
RACKARD CUP QUARTER FINAL.
Monaghan v Roscommon: Athleague: Saturday May 19th @ 2.30pm.
This Saturday Monaghan travel to Athleague for what is a sudden-death play-off with Roscommon for a place in the semi-final of the Nicky Rackard Cup. This was about the toughest pairing that Monaghan could have got following their defeat last Saturday by Donegal in a game where they had sufficient chances to book a semi-final spot and that is certainly one area were team manager Morgan Lalor will be looking for an improvement. Monaghan are also likely to suffer something of a backlash from Roscommon given their defeat by Donegal in the opening round, a result that sent shock waves throughout the Nicky Rackard Cup counties.
MONAGHAN MANAGER Morgan Lalor acknowledged that Saturday's game was a tough draw by any standards and he also agreed that there was a good possibility of a backlash in Roscommon following their defeat by Donegal. "Yes there is a strong possibility that there will be something of a backlash in Roscommon that will help them lift their game but even allowing for that it's still a tough draw. I presume it was an open draw following the game's last weekend but it is still probably the toughest one we could have got. Having said that I haven't seen Roscommon in a couple of years but when I was with Kildare and we were operating in division 2 Roscommon were up there and any team playing them had to really hurl if you were to take anything out of a match with them, so we will have to play to a high standard on Saturday and go about our business with conviction".
