Moyna blasts McGuinness

DCU manager Dr Niall Moyna
DCU manager Dr Niall Moyna was scathing in his criticism of his Donegal counterpart Jim McGuinness after the students booked their place in the O'Byrne Cup final on Saturday night.
Moyna claimed that McGuinness had demanded Martin McElhinney to play a challenge match for Donegal against Monaghan in Clones - just five hours before DCU's O'Byrne Cup semi-final against Meath in Navan.
To compound the situation, McElhinney suffered an ankle injury in the warm-up before the Monaghan match and was unable to play in DCU's 2-8 to 0-6 victory over the Royals.
"We lost Martin McElhinney on the morning of the game," Moyna explained.
"This was on the same day as he was supposed to play an O'Byrne Cup semi-final. He turned over on his ankle and that meant that we didn't have him.
"I don't think that Martin had any intention of playing in the challenge game until he got a call from Jim McGuinness saying he would be thrown off the Donegal panel if he didn't turn up for the game.
"I think it's appalling that an inter-county manager would take a guy in a week that he is doing his exams and demand that he go to play a game in order not to be thrown off the panel."
