O'Brien helping Monaghan out

Eamonn O'Brien as Meath manager during the 2010 senior football championship
Former Meath manager Eamonn O'Brien is working with Monaghan on a part-time basis.

Walterstown clubman O'Brien managed the Royals to an All-Ireland semi-final in 2009 and a Leinster SFC the following year before being controversially replaced by Monaghan man Seamus McEnaney.

Current Monaghan manager Eamonn MeEneaney has confirmed that O'Brien is working alongside his back-room team, though not on a full-time basis. The former Louth boss says in today's Star:

"We had mutual friends and would have talked about football at different times on nights out. He will be assisting us with certain areas, but not full-time.

"He's a man with a lot of experience who has been in a dressing room for All-Ireland finals and that's certainly something that can only be of benefit to us."

It'll be an interesting occasion when the two counties clash in the opening round of this year's league on February 4th!
